What Aussie athletes will wear for Paris 2024

Members of the Australian Olympic team pose during the opening ceremony uniform launch at Clovelly Surf Club.

Over 18 months, Sportscraft and Volley measured up nearly 1000 prospective team members and officials, to ensure sizing is spot on for the eventual expected team of 460-480 athletes.

"Wearing an Australian Olympic opening ceremony uniform is a rare and special moment," chef de mission Anna Meares said.

"Thank you to Sportscraft and Volley for designing a uniform that will make all of our Olympians in Paris look and feel incredible on the world's biggest stage."

The sharp outfits were shown off at a special event 100 days out from Paris 2024 by Mariafe Artacho del Solar, Michelle Heyman, Tilly Kearns, Torrie Lewis, Georgia Godwin, Tom Green, Matt Hauser, Nick Malouf, Jeff Dunne and Blake Edwards at Clovelly Beach.

Cycling legend Anna Meares had some cheeky comments up her sleeve when asked about the outfits.

"My favourite piece is the skirt, to be honest," Meares said.

"And I think not only just the female athletes will be looking at that. I think a few of our male athletes will be interested in that one."

Water polo star Tilly Kearns reveals the Australian opening ceremony uniform at Clovelly Surf Club.

"To be able to have a look at the uniform and get to try it on is so special... events like this make the Games feel a little bit more real," Kearns said.

The team said the green and gold 'ombre pleated skirt' was a nod to Sportscraft's 110 year history of making pleated garments.

Female athletes also have the option of wearing stone coloured chino shorts at the opening ceremony.

"To wear this uniform in Paris with my girls would be a dream come true," Heyman said.

"The Australian Olympic team is so special. I love wearing my Rio Olympic jacket, when I talk to schools or do events, I'm so proud to wear it and show that I'm an Australian Olympian.

"Not a lot of people get to wear these jackets, every time I put it on it makes me feel like I'm part of that special team who have achieved something remarkable."

Part of the Australian Olympic team's kit for this year's Games in Paris was unveiled in Sydney in March.

ASICS designed kit tailored for each sport with the uniforms featuring Australia's iconic green and gold colour scheme, an Indigenous print and arrow patterns known as Japonism yagasuri.

This is the first Games where a dress will be offered to female athletes to wear around the Olympic venues.

"I know the girls are going to be really excited to wear a dress," Caslick said.

"The conditions in Paris are going to be quite hot and humid, so having something lightweight to chuck on is perfect for when we're over there."

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander print incorporated on every piece of the uniform is the work of Paul Fleming, an Indigenous artist who represented Australia in boxing at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, and Indigenous artist David Bosun.

Fleming's artwork is titled "Walking Together" and Bosun's artwork is titled "Ngalmum Danalaig (Our Way of Life)".

Tokyo Olympian and Australian rugby sevens captain Maurice Longbottom says he is "incredibly excited" to pull on the Indigenous-inspired kit in Paris.

"It fills me with enormous pride to represent my country on the world stage, wearing a uniform which incorporates Indigenous design to showcase our rich cultural heritage, uniting us as one," Longbottom, a Dharawal man, said.
