Paris 2024 Olympic Games venues

When athletes arrive in Paris for the Summer Games, their focus will be solely on reaching the top of the podium.

Yet, what can easily be forgotten is the historic setting many of our biggest sport stars will perform in.

Thirty-eight venues will host events this July and August.

Two of these venues were only built this year and are expected to leave a legacy for the general public.

Take a look through the sporting venues Paris will have on display.

Famous river's role

The venues in Paris are spread across two main zones, both connected by the Seine River.

The zones are split into 'heart of Paris' and the Paris and Grand Paris axis.

To break this down a little further, all events will be accessible by public transport with 80 per cent of competition venues located within a 10km radius of the Olympic and Paralympic Village.

The Village will be located seven kilometres north of Paris' centre and less than two kilometres from the Stade de France.

The opening ceremony will be held along the famous river. It will be the first Games ceremony not held in a stadium.

Esplanade des Invalides

Paris will rely on a mixture of existing and temporary venues for the Games.

The Esplanade des Invalides, a former military hospital and tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte, is steeped in history.

During the Games it will be part of a dedicated area for archery, athletics, road cycling and the para archery event.

The Esplanade is located opposite the Hôtel des Invalides in the heart of Paris.

Home to one of the most famous tennis tournaments in history, Roland-Garros will be the setting for three events.

It has witnessed historic moments including Serbia's Novak Djokovic facing off against Spain's Rafael Nadal at the 2020 French Open tennis tournament.

This July and August will see today's tennis stars return to the court.

The venue will also host wheelchair tennis and boxing.

Constructed for the 1900 Universal Exhibition, the venue has undergone many renovations.

In 2010 it hosted the World Fencing Championships.

It has been the venue of choice for the Saut Hermes international show jumping competition since 2009.

In 2019 it hosted a tribute to late German fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld.

During the Paris Olympics it will host the fencing, taekwondo, wheelchair fencing and para taekwondo events.
